Kirk Doulgas's new book, written with his wife Anne, Kirk and Anne: Letters of Love, Laughter, and a Lifetime in Hollywood is now available. This link will enable you to order a copy, and have part of the proceeds go to the work of The Douglas Foundation.
Film legend Kirk Douglas and Anne Buydens, his wife of nearly sixty-three years, look back on a lifetime filled with drama both on and off the screen. Sharing priceless correspondence with each other as well as the celebrities and world leaders they called friends, Kirk and Anne is a candid portrayal of the pleasures and pitfalls of a Hollywood life lived in the public eye.
Compiled from Anne's private archive of letters and photographs, this is an intimate glimpse into the Douglases' courtship and marriage set against the backdrop of Kirk's screen triumphs, including The Vikings, Lust For Life, Paths of Glory, and Spartacus. The letters themselves, as well as Kirk and Anne's vivid descriptions of their experiences, reveal remarkable insight and anecdotes about the legendary figures they knew so well, including Lauren Bacall, Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, the Kennedys, and the Reagans. Filled with photos from film sets, private moments, and public events, Kirk and Anne details the adventurous, oftentimes comic, and poignant reality behind the glamour of a Hollywood life-as only a couple of sixty-two years (and counting) could tell it.
Kirk Douglas Turns 95!

Should we call him "Spartacus"? Or "Champion"? Both names certainly fit the man.
Kirk Douglas turns 95 tomorrow, and he is still very much with us. (Over the past couple of years, I've spotted him and his beloved wife Anne twice in New York City, once in a restaurant and once at the theatre.)
He embodies the American Dream because he seized it with the same intensity that animated his characters on-screen. Born in Amsterdam, New York to impoverished immigrant parents, from early days he had a burning desire to perform, and saw acting as his ticket to a better life. He received a scholarship at the American Academy Of Dramatic Arts, earning food money as a gardener and janitor.

Kirk Douglas is Turner Classic Movies' Star of the Month of September. Douglas has had one of the longest and most prestigious film careers anywhere in the world. That's probably because enough audience members loved how Douglas ferociously attacked his characters — instead of merely bringing them to life.
The 94-year-old actor (who'll be turning 95 next December 9) starred or was featured in numerous major classics — and a number of minor ones — from the mid-'40s to the mid'-60s, nabbing three Best Actor Oscar nominations along the way.

"My wife says I could live without a wife but I could never live without dogs," jokes Kirk Douglas. The Oscar-winning actor, producer, director, and author recently shared with PETA the lessons in love and friendship that he has learned from his two beloved Labrador retrievers, Danny and Banshee, who are rarely far from his side.
Through all the busy years of his impressive career, Douglas says that he has found joy and solace with his dogs. "I've had dogs all my life …. They have never failed to give me friendship."

Michael Douglas on Thursday night was honored with the 2011 KIRK DOUGLAS AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN FILM from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The 6th annual black-tie Gala dinner took place at The Four Seasons Biltmore Thursday night.
“The first time I saw Michael Douglas act was in a play at UC Santa Barbara, so it is fitting that a career that started here should be honored here” Kirk Douglas said in a statement. “To tell the truth, I wanted Michael to be a lawyer. I secretly hoped he would be bad so I could tell him to forget it. He wasn’t. But as proud as I am of his achievements on screen, I am even prouder of the humanitarian work he has done for the United Nations and other organizations. I am very happy to give this award to my favorite actor/producer who also happens to be my firstborn son.”
